The deadline of Saturday 5th April for all employers to display the 2009 Health and Safety Law poster has just past and we want to ensure that you aren't unknowingly caught out.

Until now only workers with children under the age of 17 have been able to request flexible working. This is now about to change, as of April 2014 any worker with six months continues service is now able to request flexible working to commence after 30 June 2014. It must not be forgotten that employees still only have a right to request flexible working, and not the right to flexible working. The request still needs to be considered by the employer and the guidelines are to consider it reasonably.

The government confirms that there will be a rise in the National Minimum Wage as of October this year. The new National Minimum Wage will increase to £6.50 an hour as recommended by the independent Low Pay Commissioner.  The increase in pay will mean that more than one million employees could see their wages increase by as much as £355 a year. The National Minimum Wage rates from 1 October 2014, as recommended by the LPC, will be:

The Acas' Early Conciliation service is now available. Contacting Acas will be a required step from 6 May 2014. The aim is to use Early Conciliation to save people the time, cost and anxiety of facing an Employment Tribunal. It has been put in place to help an employee to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their case, and be provided with ways of resolving it.

Here we go! Here we go, the greatest event to be hosted by London since the Royal Wedding! Although I am not able to actually state here what I am referring to for fear of a lawsuit, but let’s not allow this to spoil what will be a fantastic spectacle of sporting achievement and endeavour.
