Inspect What to Expect | HR & H&S for School Inspections

The Ofsted Inspection. No three little words have the power to strike so much fear into the hearts of even the most hardened Head Teacher than the news of an impending Ofsted Inspection. 

Whilst there are dozens of key areas to be addressed when assessing the provision of education to your pupils, something that is often overlooked by school leaders (or at least found loitering at the bottom of the checklist) is the provision of Human Resources and Health & Safety services within your school. If you’re looking for that “Good” or “Outstanding” rating, you can be sure the inspectors will be taking a close look at these areas.

The Human Resources umbrella covers a vast array of areas within your school that involve, and benefit, staff, pupils and the overall running of the school. Health & Safety

Although written risk assessments are not required for every individual classroom activity, it is important to undertake a school-wide Health & Safety audit to identify specific risks within your establishment and have a comprehensive Health & Safety policy in place to cover your legal duties and ensure the health and wellbeing of pupils, staff and visitors. Examples include hazards on the school site such as broken fences, ponds and faulty equipment, the use of computers and fire evacuation procedures.
