Employers will be able to recover any coronavirus-related statutory sick pay (SSP) starting next week.
During the Budget, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced employers of small and medium businesses (up to 250 employees) will be able to claim back Coronavirus related SSP costs from HMRC for those employees that sickness absence started on or after 13 March 2020.
Today (19 May 2020) the government has announced that the online scheme will be available from 26 May 2020 to enable claims to be made. Further guidance on how to claim can be found on the official Gov.uk website.
The government has added the loss of smell or taste to the UK's list of coronavirus symptoms that people should look out for and self-isolate with. Make sure to advise your employees, and adhere to the guidance yourself.
Do not leave home if you or someone you live with has any of the following:
· a high temperature
· a new, continuous cough
· a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste
Check the NHS website if you have symptoms.
