Reassess the H&S of your workforce
- It’s not essential to start your health & safety management program from scratch every year
- Take a fresh look at the overall picture of health & safety in your workplace, to highlight what is and isn’t working
- How many accident or cases of illness were there in 2017? Are line managers taking the issue of health & safety seriously?
- Are your staff aware of both your and their obligations to help ensure a safe working environment?
Review your risk assessment
- Risk assessments are not required for every single activity that takes place during day to day activities
- Review what you are doing on an ongoing basis
- If there are any significant changes in activities, review your risk assessments in areas that need improvement
- Employers must deal with many new pieces of legislation and changes to existing legislation
- The HSE provides advance notices of all the upcoming amendments which need to be adopted by businesses and, over time, incorporated into your health & safety policy

Invest in Training
- One of the easiest ways to help avoid workplace accidents is by providing training
- It ensures you are fulfilling your legal obligation to protect your staff
- Review your training records, identify who requires specialist training to undertake their role safely
- Courses include: First Aid, Fire Warden and Manual Handling
These are simple tasks for Health & Safety in 2018. It doesn’t need to be complicated or take up a lot of time. You do have a legal obligation to provide a safe working environment, and not put your employees at risk.
