Teachers' Strikes planned for this academic year...

Members of the NUT and NASUWT have warned about walk-outs in response to plans and the ongoing disputes concerning pay, pension and working conditions if the Education Secretary, Michael Gove continues to refuse to meet for talks.

Dates are to be confirmed but are likely to form a rolling programme commencing this Autumn. Dates are likely to differ by region.

The Government fears disruption to pupils but is continuing with planned reforms which include the introduction of Performance Related Pay which means that Heads will be able to do something different from the national framework for pay. There will be autonomy for schools in respect of pay and how to apply pay in connection with appraisal schemes etc.

The Government’s view is that the change will help Schools retain their best staff and set salaries that will attract good staff to disadvantaged schools.
