Redundancy over the holiday period

The recession has hit hard in Lapland and Santa has to make some tough decisions. What should he do?

  • Make sure all other options to redundancy have been considered (flexible working, cut back overtime, reduce working hours)
  • Consultation period - if more than 20 redundancies are occurring a consultation period must be started at least 30 days before the first dismissal takes effect.
  • Selection of those to be let go must be based on objective and measurable criteria
  • At the dismissal meeting - remember the right to appeal, notice periods, holiday pay and statutory redundancy pay.
