For most businesses the current economic climate is proving challenging in many areas and spending decisions are becoming harder and harder to make and justify. Because of this many organisations are looking for best value when it comes to spending that ever-decreasing training budget. Here at Park City, we believe in listening to our clients and where possible, look for ways to improve the services we offer to meet their needs. A prime example of this has always been the way we look to deliver best value when it comes to health and safety training.
Previously we used to provide just onsite training for clients but with ever-increasing demands on staff time we identified a need for an alternative solution and developed a programme of providing open courses at our offices here in Colchester. This allowed clients to send one or two staff at a time, instead of releasing 10 to 15 all at once.
But as travel costs increase and time out of the workplace is becoming even harder to justify due to staffing numbers becoming leaner, once again we have identified a need for another alternative for our clients and this has brought about the development of our new online training solution.
Our online solution provides our clients with affordable training in a location to suit the user, that they can either do in one session or more conveniently, offers users the option to dip in and out of whenever they have 10 minutes.
For most organisations, the flexibility that online learning offers is the biggest attraction. The ability to undertake what is, effectively, statutory training, at times and places that are convenient to the user, fitting around other work and allowing them to study at their own pace, is ideal. Learning online usually takes less time overall than an equivalent face to face course, as there is less travelling time, less downtime between sessions, and when people work individually at their own pace, they can usually cover the content more quickly than in a classroom environment.
Courses are broken down into smaller units. These units are then further broken down into topics, with each topic having a mixture of background information (presented as text, images, audio and video if relevant) followed by interactive elements to allow you to practice and apply the skills covered and test your understanding of the topic. The topics are arranged in a logical way to lead you through the unit and prepare you successfully for the assessment at the end.
Courses are designed to be easy to stop at any point and pick up where you have left off, allowing people to choose their ideal length of study. Obviously online learning requires an element of self-discipline, motivation and good time management, so online learning does not suit everyone, but with our ability to track individual learners, we can update clients as to where people are within their courses.
